Robert Therrien (* 1947 in Chicago ; † June 17, 2019 in Los Angeles ) was an American sculptor and draftsman .

Career

Robert Therrien was born in Chicago and grew up in San Francisco . He received his master's degree from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles . Initially, his works were made from everyday materials such as doors, chairs, plates, coffins and jugs. Later he started working with wood, bronze , copper and other materials. In the 1990s he focused on the size of the objects, so that oversized sculptures and room installations emerged from the domestic environment. Not only the dimensions of the everyday objects, but also the color, the material and the arrangement have changed.

“No Title (Table and Four Chairs)” is one of his most famous works.

Robert Therrien was also active in the fields of drawing, printmaking and photography.
