Roberta Alma Anastase (born March 27, 1976 in Ploieşti , Prahova district ) is a Romanian politician and a former member of the European Parliament for the Partidul Democrat (PD) and for the Partidul Democrat-Liberal (PD-L).

Life

Anastase attended school in her hometown (Liceul Teoretic Mihai Viteazul) until 1994. In 1994 she was elected Miss Romania and represented her country in the Miss Universe competition. She then studied at the Faculty of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work and the Faculty of Political Science (European Studies) of the University of Bucharest . She then worked from 1996 to 1999 as general director and later (1999/2000) as director of the PR department of the trading company Cibela, the bankruptcy of which tore two Romanian banks with it. She then switched to politics and became a ministerial advisor in the Ministry of Transport (June – December 2000) to Traian Băsescu and an expert in the Romanian Parliament (January – May 2001). From 2002 to 2004 she was employed again as general director of a trading company.

Roberta Anastase was a member of the youth organization of the Partidul Democrat (PD) from October 2001 , for which she performed many different functions. In November 2000 she became a PD candidate for the Chamber of Deputies in the Bucharest constituency , but has not yet been able to enter parliament. Within her party she became deputy district chairman of the PD in Ploieşti from October 2001 and from October 2001 in the Prahova district (February 2006 as first chairwoman). She also assumed the post of vice-chairman of the Organization of Democratic Women. From 2001 to 2003 she was Vice-President of the Romanian Youth Council and from 2002 to 2003 a member of the joint control group of the Romanian Youth Council and the Ministry of Youth and Sport. In the Romanian Parliament she worked for the subcommittee on equal opportunities of the Chamber of Deputies.

Since May 2003, Anastase was the PD Executive Secretary and candidate for the Chamber of Deputies on the list for the Justice and Truth Alliance in the Prahova constituency. In December 2004 she then became a member of the Romanian Parliament (Camera Deputailor) and from September 2005 an observer in the European Parliament.

In the course of Romania's admission to the European Union , she was a member of the European Parliament from 2007 to 2008 , where she was a member of the Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) and European Democrats . For your group, she sat there as a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and in the delegation for relations with the Gulf States, including Yemen . As a deputy, she was represented in the Committee on Culture and Education , in the Subcommittee on Human Rights and in the delegation in the Parliamentary Cooperation Committees EU-Armenia, EU-Azerbaijan and EU-Georgia .

After the parliamentary elections in 2008 , in which she won a mandate for her party, which has now been renamed Partidul Democrat Liberal (PD-L), she was elected chairman of the Chamber of Deputies on December 19, 2008. She held this office until 2012 when she was voted out of office.

Honors

She is an honorary citizen of the US state of Nebraska and the city of District Heights , Maryland .
