Robin Woods
Robert Wilmer Woods , KCMG , KCVO , who was always called Robin Woods , (born February 14, 1914 , † October 20, 1997 ) was the Anglican Dean of Windsor and Bishop of Worcester and a member of the House of Lords .
Origin and education
Woods was the youngest son of the Right Reverend Edward Sydney Woods († January 11, 1953), Bishop of Lichfield . His mother was Clemence Barclay († October 14, 1952) from the Barclay of Higham family.
He attended Gresham's School in Holt and studied at Trinity College of Cambridge University .
Career
Woods was ordained a Deacon of the Church of England in 1938 and a priest in 1939. He was Assistant Secretary of the Student Christian Movement from 1937 to 1942 . His first clerical position was from 1938 to 1939 as curator of St. Edmund the King, Lombard Street, London and then from 1939 to 1942 in Hoddesdon . During World War II , he served as an Anglican military chaplain with the rank of Chaplain to the Forces 4th Class from 1942 to 1946 . For his achievements during the Italian campaign , he was Mentioned in Despatches in 1944 .
After the war in 1946 he was appointed Vicar of South Wigston , Leicestershire . In 1951 he became Archdeacon of Singapore and Vicar at St Andrew's Cathedral in Malaya . In 1958 he returned to England to become Archdeacon of Sheffield and Rector of Tankersley . In 1962 he became Dean of Windsor and Domestic Chaplain for Queen Elizabeth II. He played an influential role in the upbringing of Prince Charles . Woods recommended that Charles study at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he had studied himself. In Windsor he also served as registrar of the Order of the Garter . In 1970 he became Bishop of Worcester. Elizabeth II made him Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order in 1971 and Knight Commander of the Order of St. Michael and St. George in 1988 . From 1974 he was also a member of the House of Lords as Bishop of Worcester . He retired in 1981.

Woods married Henrietta ("Etta") Marian Wilson († February 8, 2005) in 1942 and had two sons and three daughters with her. By marriage he was one of the wealthiest clergymen in the Church of England.
