action

After the invasion and occupation of Earth by alien robots, they defeated humans in just 11 days. They are interested in people's knowledge and ingenuity, so they study their behaviors. They force people to stay in their homes and they risk their lives if you leave the restricted territory without permission. They are digitally monitored by robots via electronic implants behind the ear, which control, track and, if necessary, kill people's movements.

Sean Flynn, a teenager, rebels against the rule of robots. Together with his friends Nathan, Alexandra and Connor, he is looking for ways to regain freedom. He is eager to find his father, who has been missing since the invasion began. By chance he finds a way to switch off the implant. While trying to repair his Playstation, Sean suffers an electric shock and immediately afterwards the control light of the implant goes out. The others immediately deactivate their implant and can now stay outside without being discovered. In a school where everyone's files are kept, Sean finds a clue as to where his father might be. Unexpectedly, the implants reactivate and the robots learn about the fugitive group. You have a helper among the people: collaborator Robin Smythe, a former teacher. He tries with all means to bring the refugees back. For a short time Sean comes under his control and he lets him insert a new, black implant. But shortly afterwards the boy escapes and hides in a bowling alley in the village, where they all put down their implants and now set out again to look for Sean's father. When suddenly a big robot approaches them and threatens them, Sean manages to get control of the robot thanks to his new implant. With his help, they can force Smythe and his team to lay down their weapons. But when Sean is briefly distracted, two small "insect robots" destroy their big colleague, but Sean can also control these two and so continue the search for his father. He finds him in a camp with like-minded people outside the city at an old tin mine. You have found a way to remove the implants, which you are now doing with Sean and his friends.

Meanwhile, Smythe is asked by Mediator 452, a robot in human form, to find Sean at any cost and bring him back. After Smythe finds the camp, he threatens to let the robots destroy it (and the people in it) if they don't hand Sean over to him. After reinserting the black implant himself, he has now managed to use his mental powers to let the robots act according to his will. In this way, he controls a robot vehicle against the local robot mother ship. He rams and destroys it and can end the invasion under which they had to endure three years. Due to the destroyed headquarters, the remaining robots no longer recognize Smythe as the commander and kill him when he does not comply with their requests.

In order to rule out any further invasion, Sean mentally connects to a damaged mediator and sends commands to end the invasion all over the world. As a result, all robots stop their activities and go into a sleep mode. The people of the place celebrate victory and their regained freedom. Sean looks up at the stars, relieved and happy.

Reviews

Kino.de evaluates: “Gillian Anderson and Ben Kingsley are the prominent draft horses, but the actual main actors and actors are the children in this science fiction adventure of English origin, which is therefore also aimed directly at young people. The story doesn't tell much that is new, but it is presented in an entertaining way, and despite a comparatively low budget, the special effects are impressive. A good grip for SF fans. ”However, other voices said:“ Almost nothing is right here, from the title to the story and the painful dialogues to the half-baked effects. ”
