The 1.90 meter tall central defender , who can also be used on the left and right in the back four, moved in April 2006 from his youth club CA Juventus to Lithuania for FC Vilnius . When he left this club in August 2007, the Brazilian club Pão de Açúcar EC from Rio de Janeiro secured the transfer rights to Rodnei, in order to lend him to Jagiellonia Białystok in Poland , for which he played for half a year and for each of his made eleven appearances in the starting line-up. After six months in Poland, he left the club in December 2007 and completed a trial training at Hertha BSC . The club refrained from making an immediate commitment, so Rodnei returned to Brazil. After half a year without a club, he was finally signed by Hertha BSC for the 2008/09 season. Rodnei received a contract running until 2009 with the club's option for two more years. He made his Bundesliga debut on February 14, 2009 in a 2-1 home win against FC Bayern Munich , where he started as a left full-back.

For the 2009/10 season Rodnei initially moved to second division club 1. FC Kaiserslautern on loan for a year . In April 2010 he was firmly committed. With the Palatine he rose to the Bundesliga in 2010. In October 2010 he underwent a groin operation, but soon after recovering he returned to his regular position in central defense alongside Martin Amedick .

On August 31, 2012 Rodnei moved to Austria for FC Red Bull Salzburg . In February 2015 he signed a contract with RB Leipzig in the 2nd Bundesliga . For the 2015/16 season he moved to second division competitor TSV 1860 Munich . His contract was terminated in February 2017 by mutual agreement.

In January 2018 he returned to Austria, where he moved to the second division club FC Blau-Weiß Linz . After the 2017/18 season he left BW Linz. After a season without a club, he moved back to Germany for the 2019/20 season to SSV Jahn Regensburg , for whose futsal team he is used. In September 2019 it was announced that Rodnei is planning a comeback in Austria at the fifth class SV Anthering . In January 2020 he was finally registered with the Salzburgers.
