Roger García Junyent (born December 15, 1976 in Sabadell ), or Roger for short , is a former Spanish football player . The left foot was mostly used as a midfielder .

Club career

Roger joined FC Barcelona's youth academy in 1987 at the age of ten . On the 32nd matchday of the 1994/95 season , Roger made his debut for the first team of FC Barcelona against Deportivo La Coruña . He scored his first league goal in the following season at El Clásico , in which he scored the 1-1 final.

After Roger played just eight of 76 league games from the start in the 1997/98 and 1998/99 seasons , in which Barça won the championship, he moved to Espanyol Barcelona for the 1999/00 season . During his four-year stay with Espanyol, he was mostly part of the starting line-up and achieved there in his last season 2002/03 his career best of nine league goals , making him the third best scorer of his team, and helped Espanyol to stay in the league.

In 2003 the transfer to Villarreal followed , for which he could only play one league game in his second season due to a serious knee injury.

Between 2002 and 2003, Roger scored three goals from his own half of the field.

Roger ended his career after the 2006/07 season, in which he was active for the Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam .

National team career

With the Spanish U-21 selection , Roger won the European Championship in 1998 .

Between 1997 and 1998 Roger also played two games for the Catalan football team .

Others

Roger's brothers, Óscar and Genís , were also professional football players. They all played for FC Barcelona in their youth , but only Roger and Óscar managed to get promoted to the first team.
