Roger MacBride Allen (* 26. September 1957 in Bridgeport , Connecticut ) is an American science fiction - writers .

Life

Allen was born in 1957 as the youngest of three children. At the age of nine he and his family moved to Bethesda , Maryland . He grew up in the Washington area, where he attended Walt Whitman High School . He then studied at the University of Boston , which he graduated in 1979 with an academic degree in journalism .

After graduating from university, Allen returned to the Washington area, where he took on various jobs to help finance his living. In his spare time he began writing and working on his first novel. After various jobs, including as a waiter, bookstore clerk and typewriter representative, he got - more by chance - a position in the publications department of the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB).

While he was still working at AGB, he was able to sell his first novel, The Torch of Honor , to Baen Books . It wasn't long after that before he was able to sell a second novel called Rogue Powers . Allen then quit his job at AGB, where he had learned a lot about layout, design, editing and production, and became a full-time writer. Since then he has published a book about every year.

Among other things, he wrote books in Isaac Asimov's robot universe. In 1995 he wrote the three-part Corellia trilogy for Bantam Books , which takes place in George Lucas ' Star Wars universe.

In 1992 he met his future wife Eleanore Fox at a science fiction convention in New York , whom he married in July 1994. They lived together in the Brazilian capital Brasília for over two years before they returned to Washington. Their son Matthew Thomas Allen was born on November 12, 1998, and a daughter named James Maury followed on April 27, 2004.
