Roger Welch

Roger Welch (born February 10, 1946 in Westfield , New Jersey , USA ) is an American photographer , object and concept artist , video and film artist . He lives in New York City .

Life

Roger Welch studied at Miami University until 1969 and at the Art Institute of Chicago from 1969 to 1971 . He is considered a pioneer of installation art, video art and one of the founders of the post-conceptual narrative art movement .

As an artist, Welch uses numerous media. He works with sculptures , watercolor painting and photographs, installations , video and film and combines everything with one another. He had his first solo exhibitions in 1971 at 112 Greene Street, New York, ( performance ) and the Steel Gallery in Bridgehampton, New York.

Numerous exhibitions worldwide followed, including at the Whitney Museum of American Art , the Milwaukee Art Museum , and the Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City ; in the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo , in the Museo de Bellas Artes in Caracas and in the Museo Nacional in Havana . His works are included in important collections and major museums, including the Guggenheim Museum , the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Georgia Museum of Art, the Musée de Saint Etienne in France and the Tamayo Museum in Mexico city.

Roger Welch took part in Documenta 5 in Kassel in 1972 with the film Portrait in the Individual Mythology : Film department . He was also represented at Documenta 6 1977 in the photography department .

Welch was awarded the National Endowment for the Arts in 1974 and 1980 and the New York State Council on the Arts Grants in 1973 and 1976.
