Roland-Bernhard Trauffer

Roland-Bernhard Trauffer OP (born August 14, 1945 in Bern ) is a Swiss religious priest and theologian . From 2002 to 2010 he was vicar general in the diocese of Basel .

Life

Roland Trauffer grew up in a Reformed family in Bern. His parents ran a restaurant on what was then Metzgergasse in Bern's old town . He completed a commercial apprenticeship in Bern from 1961 to 1964 and passed his Matura at the Lucerne Cantonal School in 1970 . After his conversion to the Catholic Church , he studied philosophy and theology at the University of Freiburg from 1970 . Until 1976, Trauffer was an assistant at the chair for canon law there . In 1975 he was ordained a priest. He completed further studies on canon law from 1977 to 1980 at the “ Angelicum ” in Rome with a doctorate . At the same time he also did pastoral work in the diocese of Brooklyn . From 1981 onwards he was vice- official at the marriage court of this diocese for two years . In 1983 he began working on the official office of the marriage court of the diocese of Basel. In 1984 he was appointed Commissioner for the Religious and Spiritual Communities and Chancellor of this diocese.

From 1987 to 2000 he was Secretary General of the Swiss Bishops' Conference . In 2001 a pastoral year followed in the Dominican-led parish in Santa María Cahabón , Guatemala . From 2002 to 2010 he was Vicar General of Bishop Kurt Koch , and since January 1, 2005 President of the German-Swiss Ordinary Conference. In autumn 2010 he emigrated to Guatemala in order to work again in the community he visited earlier. He has had HPS for several years .
