Roland Eichmann (* 1972 in Starnberg ) is a German local politician of the SPD . On March 30, 2014 he was elected full-time 1st mayor of the town of Friedberg (Bavaria) in the Aichach-Friedberg district.

Life

Eichmann was the son of an army - officer born in 1972 in Starnberg. After attending school in Eschweiler and Neu-Ulm , he graduated from high school in 1992 at Bertha-von-Suttner-Gymnasium in Neu-Ulm. He then studied political science and philosophy at the University of Augsburg , which he graduated in 2000.

Since completing his studies, he has worked as a consultant and moderator for municipalities and cities, mainly in Bavaria, initially in an office for municipal advice, and from 2004 as a freelance. In 2011 he became managing director of the Social Democratic Community for Local Politics in Bavaria and the Georg von Vollmar Academy of the Bavarian SPD . He gave up the latter position a year later and instead took over the management of the Bavarian Political Institute .

Eichmann is married and has two daughters.

Political party

Eichmann has been a member of the SPD since 1992. From 1993 he was chairman of the Juso sub-district of Neu-Ulm. From 1997 to 2002 he was a member of the Bavarian Juso state board. For the Bundestag elections in 1998 and 2002 he ran for the SPD in the Bundestag constituency of Neu-Ulm , but lost each time, in 1998 to Theo Waigel and in 2002 to Georg Nüßlein . In 2004 he ran for the office of 1st mayor in Nersingen, but lost in the runoff election against the representative of the CSU .

Public offices

From 1996 to 2004 Eichmann was a member of the municipal council of Nersingen in the Neu-Ulm district . Since 2009 he has been a youth lay judge in Augsburg.

At the municipal elections in Bavaria in 2014 , he ran as a joint candidate for the SPD and non-party members for the office of 1st mayor of Friedberg. In the first ballot he achieved 39% and together with the CSU candidate came into the runoff election, which he clearly won on March 30 with a good 55%. He succeeded Peter Bergmair , who no longer ran for election. In the local elections in Bavaria in 2020 , Eichmann defended his office in the first ballot with 52.08% of the vote.
