Roland Wienholz

Roland Fritz Wilhelm Wienholz (born February 15, 1930 in Anklam ; † July 8, 1992 in Lüdenscheid ) was a German geologist and university professor .

Life

Roland Wienholz attended the high school for boys in Wolgast . He joined the SED in 1948 as a schoolboy . After graduating from high school in 1949, he began studying geology at the University of Greifswald , which he continued at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena in 1952 and graduated with a diploma in 1955. He then worked as a petroleum geologist for the State Geological Commission of the GDR.

From 1957 he worked in the Ludwigslust exploration company of VEB Erdöl und Erdgas Gommern. In 1960 he became chief geologist, and from 1962 he headed the research institute for the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas in Gommern . In 1964 he completed his doctorate at the Humboldt University in Berlin . He examined u. a. Natural gas deposits in the Altmark and participated in the test drilling program in the north-east German lowlands.

In October 1969 Roland Wienholz was appointed honorary professor of geology from the Freiberg Mining Academy, and in 1972 he became a full professor. From 1975 to 1979 and from 1984 to 1990 he headed the Geosciences Section. He participated in numerous committees: from 1964 to 1966 he was chairman of the central working group for petroleum-natural gas geology at the Research Council of the GDR , and from 1976 to 1982 he was deputy chairman of the scientific council of the research program geo- and cosmos sciences of the Academy of Sciences GDR . From the 1970s he worked on the editorial board of the Zeitschrift für Angewandte Geologie .

Roland Wienholz died in Lüdenscheid at the age of 62. His grave is on the Donatsfriedhof in Freiberg .
