Rolf Becker (publisher)

Rolf Becker (born June 5, 1920 in Jüterbog ; † February 15, 2014 in Munich ) was a German publisher and owner of the publishing house Wort und Bild .

Life

In 1955, as the head of a pharmaceutical company, he founded Wort und Bild Verlag together with two partners and published the Apotheken Umschau since January 1956 . In 1994 he co-founded the Pinakothek der Moderne foundation in Munich. In 2005 he founded the Rufzeichen Gesundheit!

Rolf Becker had been married since 1944 and had two sons.

Art collection and patronage

Becker collected art extensively. He had some sculptures set up around the publishing house in Baierbrunn . As a patron, he donated among other things, " Eduardo Chillida " -plastic Berlin before the Federal Chancellery and was among the first donors to the Holocaust Memorial .
