Rolf Loer
Rolf Loer , actually Lawrence F. Koehler , also Rolf Lör or Rolf Loehr (born January 19, 1892 in Minneapolis , Minnesota ; † October 12, 1964 in Jackson Heights , New York ) was a German-American actor , violinist and music teacher .
Life
His real name was Lawrence F. Koehler, his father was the conductor Friedrich Ernst Georg Koehler (1868–1926), who emigrated from Hamburg to America , and his mother was Magdalena Koehler, née Oberth (1865–1957). His brother Clarence Franz Koehler (1896–1980) was also a musician: he composed. Since Lawrence F. showed a talent for playing the violin , his father sent him to Germany to the Klindworth-Scharwenka Conservatory , where he began studying with Arrigo Serato in 1909 , which he continued until the outbreak of the First World War .
As a young adult he lived in Berlin until his middle years. Under the stage name Rolf Loer he played for silent films in a number of films of the German Mutoscope & Biograph GmbH , the figure of Super Gangsters Phantomas that before him Erich Kaiser-Titz had played. After 1921/22 he also took on other roles. He appeared in front of the camera together with well-known actors of his time such as Victor Colani , Blandine Ebinger , Frydel Fredy , Hanni Reinwald , Conrad Veidt and Paul Westermeier . Films with Loer can be traced between 1917 and 1925.
Loer returned to America before the outbreak of World War II . There he took up a position as a violinist with the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra , but then moved to New York , where he gave violin lessons in private lessons.
He died in Jackson Heights, New York, in October 1964, and is buried in Flushing Cemetery , where well-known musicians such as jazz trumpeters Louis Armstrong (1901–1971) and Dizzy Gillespie (1917–1993) rest.
