Rolf Richter (born February 25, 1966 in Bensheim ) is a CDU politician and has been the mayor of the Hessian city ​​of Bensheim an der Bergstrasse since 2014 .

Career

After graduating from high school at the Old Electoral High School in Bensheim and completing his military service , Richter studied in Mannheim and Heidelberg . He graduated from the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg in 1994 as a lawyer . After legal clerkship and the second state examination, he became a judge at the district court in Bad Schwalbach and Fürth and a judge at the Darmstadt regional court in 1997 . From 2001 to 2006 he was head of division in the Hessian Ministry of Justice . Richter later became a group leader and deputy head of department in the Hessian State Chancellery until he assumed the office of Vice President of the Darmstadt Regional Council in 2013 .

On May 25, 2014 Richter stood for the CDU in the mayoral election of the city of Bensheim . He won the election with 54.2% of the vote. On December 15, 2014, he succeeded Thorsten Herrmann (CDU), who did not run again in the election, as mayor.

Personal

Richter lives in Bensheim with his partner Irmgard Schatz. The couple have two sons.
