action

The Nunhead Cemetery Chapel in London served as the backdrop for the half-destroyed church in the film

Malky, who is a little over 30, never really got through a childhood experience. At the age of twelve he was abused by a respected Catholic clergyman whom he had previously admired, which still gnaws at him today. He suffers from extreme insecurity and psychosis. Malky usually does his work as a demolition worker in silence, and he prefers to discharge his frustration with his sledgehammer.

When Malky returns to London, to the place where it happened, to tear down a church there, he lives with his mother and he meets friends from before. When he meets the responsible priest Jimmy in a pub, who touched him immorally at the time, Malky is forced to grapple with his past again. He seeks revenge.

production

Bar and film title

The film was produced by Sheetal Vinod Talwar of WSG Entertainment, James Harris and Mark Lane of The Tea Shop & Film Company, and Jasper Graham of Dreamscape Films.

The directors were the brothers Ludwig and Paul Shammasian . Your film, set in London, is based on a true story. Back in 2008, the brothers had made an almost 30-minute short film called Romans 12:20 , which told the story of the tattooed bouncer Malky who goes to confession to get forgiveness for a sin he has yet to commit . The title of Romans 12:20 referred to a passage in Romans , chapter 12, verse 20 that says, “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he thirsts, give him a drink. If you do that, you will collect fiery coals on his head. ”The term“ Romans ”(ie“ Romans ”) can also be applied to the Roman Catholic Church in a broader sense .

The script for the feature film, like that of the short film, comes from Geoff Thompson . The actual non-fiction author had published several books in the past about his experiences as a bouncer, dealing with the subject of self-defense , fear management and martial arts . He processed experiences from his own youth in the scripts. Producer Talwar said the script for the film was incredible: "The dialogue is brilliant and believable, the reversals and surprises are well placed and powerful, and the characters and situations are drawn to life." Orlando Bloom is also the perfect choice for the cast from Malky, so Talwar.

Reviews

Ben Kenigsberg of the New York Times writes that the film does not show the violent image of revenge that the title promises [Note: in the USA also 'Retaliation'] . Anyone expecting Orlando Bloom in Charles Bronson mode will instead get serious drama about a man coping with the trauma of being sexually abused by a priest as a child.
