The Romantica was built in 1977 at the Schmidt shipyard. Due to the oil crisis in the 1970s , it was made of lightweight construction to save fuel, e.g. B. the outer sheets with only 4 mm material thickness.
Until 1992 the Romantica was in use as a day excursion ship for the Kaufer shipping company in Koningswinter . Since 1992 it has been part of the passenger shipping fleet of Gebr. Kolb. The ship was originally approved for up to 498 passengers, but this was later reduced to 250 people.
