Ron Jans (born September 29, 1958 in Zwolle ) is a Dutch former football player who became a football coach after his active career .

Athletic career

Jans, who played at RKSV Zwolle in his youth , began his professional career at PEC Zwolle in 1976 . Initially accrued second class with the club, he rose with him in 1978 to the Eredivisie . The club, which lived on the money of the Slavenburgse Bank , went bankrupt in 1982 . He then moved to FC Groningen , for which he played two seasons before moving on to Roda JC Kerkrade . In 1987 he moved to the Japanese club Mazda Motors , but soon returned to the Dutch first division club BV Veendam . With the club he rose from the first division at the end of the 1988/89 season, but stayed with the club until the end of his playing career in 1991.

After the end of his career, Jans first coached the sub-class amateur clubs SJS Stadskanaal , ACV and Achilles in 1894 . In 2000, the second division BVO Emmen hired him as an assistant to Jan de Jonge , where he also worked under his successor Hennie Spijkerman . In October 2002 he returned to his former playing station FC Groningen, who had dismissed Dwight Lodeweges , as the main coach in charge . First he played with the team against relegation, before he regularly reached the front division with the club from the 2005/06 season. However , he failed with the team early in the UEFA Cup against FK Partizan Belgrade and AC Florence . In November 2009, after eight seasons with the club, he announced his departure at the end of the season, at which he only missed a return to the European Cup in the play-offs.

In the summer of 2010, Jans took over as the successor to Jan de Jonge or the interim solution Jan Everse as coach at the Dutch first division club SC Heerenveen . Thanks to his offensive style of play, he led the Frisians to fifth place in the table in 2012 and thus to the Europa League qualification . Center forward Bas Dost was the top scorer in the league and Luciano Narsingh , who was promoted by Jans and became a national player during this time, was the season's best assist. However, Jans' contract was not renewed and he moved to the Belgian first division Standard Liège , with whom he signed a one-year contract. After eleven match days, however, the club separated from him again. With 13 points, Standard fell short of expectations in twelfth place. On April 20, 2014, Jans celebrated his greatest success when PEC Zwolle won the Dutch Football Cup with a 5-1 win against Ajax Amsterdam.
