Club career

Everse started playing soccer in the youth of XerxesDZB - the club where his father Jan sr. played in the 1950s. At the age of 15 he moved to the youth of Feyenoord ; at 18 he turned pro and made his debut in the Eredivisie on November 4, 1973 as a left defender in a 3-0 win at Kerkrade . Just two days later he made his first appearance alongside Wim Rijsbergen and Wim Jansen in the UEFA Cup competition ; Feyenoord lost 1-0 at Gwardia Warsaw , but progressed and ultimately won the UEFA Cup this season in addition to the Dutch championship . In the European Cup he made three out of four games the following season before Rotterdam was eliminated by FC Barcelona . Everse stayed in Rotterdam until 1977, but was never really able to assert itself; in his four years he came to 46 Eredivisie appearances with two goals.

For the 1977/78 season he moved to the reigning champions Ajax Amsterdam , where he was a regular in the first season with 32 appearances; He was also used in all of the Amsterdam’s European Cup games that season before Ajax was eliminated on penalties in the quarter-finals against Juventus Turin . In the following season 1978/79 he played a large part in the fact that Ajax won the Dutch championship and the KNVB Cup and thus the double for the fourth time with 27 appearances . While Everse never hit the goal in the Ajax jersey in the championship, he was able to score his only goal in the European Cup on October 3, 1979: for the 8-1 home win against HJK Helsinki , he contributed the goal to the 3-0 intermediate result. This season he came due to a serious knee injury only ten times in the championship and three times in the European Cup; at the end of the season he ended his active career as a renewed Dutch champion.

National team

Jan Everses two games in the Nederlands elftal fell into his successful season in which he played with Feyenoord as champions in the European Cup. The performance had made bond coach George Knobel aware of him, who called him to the squad for a friendly against Belgium on April 30, 1975 in Antwerp . In the 1-0 defeat, he was substituted on for Frans Thijssen in the 79th minute immediately after the Belgian goal scoring and played a good ten minutes alongside his club-mates Wim Rijsbergen and Wim van Hanegem . In the following international match between the Netherlands and Germany in Frankfurt , he only sat on the bench. On May 30th he started against Yugoslavia and played the full time at the 0-3 at the Partizan Stadium in Belgrade . With his two appearances, he stayed below the number of games his father Jan played, who played three times in the national team.
