Dwight Lodeweges (born October 26, 1957 in Turner Valley , Alberta , Canada ) is a former Dutch soccer player of Canadian origin and today's soccer coach . Since 2020 he has been an interim bond coach for the Dutch national team .

Career as a footballer

Dwight Lodeweges grew up in Voorthuizen in the province of Gelderland after his parents, who moved to Canada in the post-war period, returned to the Netherlands and played for VVOP as a youth before getting his first professional contract with Go Ahead Eagles Deventer from Deventer in the province of Overijssel , 51 kilometers from Voorthuizen. Lodeweges later moved to Edmonton Drillers in his native country before returning to Go Ahead Eagles Deventer in the Netherlands. After a short time he joined Montreal Manic in Canada before moving to the United States for the Minnesota Strikers. Dwight Lodeweges later returned to Go Ahead Eagles Deventer, where he - apart from a guest appearance at Minnesota Strikers - stayed until the end of his career.

Career as a coach

During his time at Go Ahead Eagles Deventer, he took over the post of youth coach and later became assistant coach of the professional team. Lodeweges then became a trainer at the Gelderland amateur club VVOG, before taking care of FC Zwolle, the predecessor club of PEC Zwolle . As a result, he was assistant coach and head coach at various clubs in the Netherlands and abroad. From 2016 to 2017 he coached the Dutch U20 national before taking over the detour as an assistant coach in Zwolle as an assistant coach Ronald Koeman to the Dutch senior team came. The Oranje had before the enthronement of Koeman and Lodeweges qualifying for the Euro 2016 in France and the World Cup finals in 2018 in Russia missed. After Dwight Lodeweges and Ronald Koeman took over the Dutch team, Nederlands Elftal won the group stage in League A in the UEFA Nations League, ahead of world champions France and arch-rivals Germany . In the final four , the Netherlands reached the final and lost to European champions Portugal . In the qualification for the European Championship finals , Elftal qualified as second in the group for the tournament that was postponed to 2021 due to the Corona crisis .

In August 2020, Ronald Koeman resigned from his position as bond coach due to his move to FC Barcelona , so that Dwight Lodeweges is the new coach of the Dutch national team on an interim basis.
