Roni Milo ( Hebrew רוני מילוא; Born November 26, 1949 as Ron Milikovsky in Tel Aviv ) is an Israeli politician ( Likud ), lawyer and publicist who has held various ministerial offices in Israel during his career. He was a member of the 9th to 13th and the 15th Knesset . From 1993 to 1998 he was mayor of Tel Aviv.

Life

After completing his legal studies, he went into politics and was initially head of the information department of the Likud party.

In 1977 he was elected to the 9th Knesset. In 1988 he was Israel's first environment minister ( Jizchak Shamir 's cabinet ), in 1990 he became minister of labor, then minister for internal security with responsibility for the police, among other things .

In 1993 he was elected mayor of Tel Aviv-Jaffa and gave up his Knesset seat on December 30, 1993 in order to devote himself entirely to his duties as mayor.

After his time as mayor, he returned to national politics, was elected to the 15th Knesset for the Center Party ( Mifleget ha-Merkas ) in 1999 and became Minister of Health in Barak's cabinet in 2000 .

In Sharon's cabinet in 2001 he was Minister for Regional Cooperation until 2003 (successor to Silvan Shalom ).

He then left the Center Party with Jechiel Lasry and founded the new Lev party , which, after only a few minutes in existence, joined the Likud. In the upcoming allocation of new ministerial posts, he was only planned in 47th place, so that he lost his mandate.
