Jacob Ben-Jesri

Jakob Ben-Jesri ( Hebrew יעקב בן-יזרי; * January 1, 1927 in Fez ; † February 17, 2018 in Kfar Saba ) was an Israeli politician who was Minister of Health from May 4, 2006 to March 31, 2009 . He was a member of the Gil Knesset from 2006 to 2009 . He was elected to the 17th Knesset in 2006 and subsequently appointed Minister of Health in Ehud Olmert's cabinet. As a self-confessed smoker, he caused controversy when he smoked a cigarette in a television interview. From 1958 he worked as an office worker at Klalit ( Hebrew שֵׁרוּתִי בְּרִיאוּת כְּלָלִית, General Health Service; short - קֻפַּת חֹלִים כְּלָלִית, lit. general sickness fund) an activity that he carried out until 1993. He also served as the company's regional director from 1974 to 1993. He was also the national chairman of the workers 'organization's health fund and chairman of the pensioners' organization's health fund. From 1955 to 1963 he was a member of the local council of Pardes Hanna-Karkur , a local association in the Haifa district .
