Roswitha Wisniewski

Roswitha Maria Wisniewski (born September 23, 1926 in Stolp , Pomerania , today Słupsk, Poland; † December 3, 2017 in Bonn ) was a German literary scholar and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

Roswitha Maria Wisniewski was born in Stolp in 1926 as the eldest of two children (her brother, the later Berlin architect Edgar Wisniewski , was born in 1930 ) of the architect Bruno Wisniewski and his wife Edith Wisniewski (née Berndt). She first attended the Catholic elementary school and the Lessing grammar school in Stolp before her family fled to Berlin in September 1945 , where Roswitha Wisniewski took her Abitur in 1946 and then studied German and Latin at the Humboldt University . In 1948 she moved to the Free University , where she was involved in setting up the German Department. In 1953 she did her doctorate with Helmut de Boor . The habilitation took place in 1960 with the help of a habilitation grant from the German Research Foundation.

Roswitha Wisniewski was a lecturer at the Free University of Berlin until 1965, from 1965 to 1967 professor at the University of Cairo and from 1967 to 1994 professor for older German language and literature in Heidelberg . Wisniewski was the author of numerous books, including on Middle High German .

Since the 1970s she has been active with the Bund Freiheit der Wissenschaft . She was a member of the Görres Society .

politics

In 1972 Wisniewski joined the CDU. She was a co-founder of the Rhein-Neckar Women's Union , later district chairwoman of the North Baden Women's Union and deputy state chairwoman of the Baden-Württemberg Women's Union as well as a member of the North Baden district association and the CDU state association of Baden-Württemberg . From 1986 on she was a member of the national executive committee of the women's union. From 1977 to 1980 she was a city councilor in Schwetzingen .

From 1976 to 1994 Wisniewski was a member of the German Bundestag . Initially elected via the state list of the CDU Baden-Württemberg, she was directly elected member of the Mannheim II constituency from 1983 . In the Bundestag she was a member of various sub-committees, including “Reparation of National Socialist Injustices”, as well as in the Committee on Education and Science and in the Bundestag Enquete Commission “Dealing with the history and consequences of the SED dictatorship”. In 1993 she headed a Bundestag delegation to the Auschwitz and Birkenau memorials .

For a while she was also the chairwoman of the university committee of the German Association of Women Academics and the German-Egyptian Parliamentary Group, and from 1986 to 1993 a member of the scientific advisory board of the “ Cultural Foundation for German Expellees ”.
