Rotelsau is a deserted village in today's municipal area of the municipality of Jossa in Main-Kinzig-Kreis in Hesse .

location

The desert is about 285 m above sea level , 2 km southwest of Altengronau . According to a record from the beginning of the 17th century, it is said to have been on the Galgenberg on the Jossa .

history

Rotelsau initially belonged to the Altengronau court in the Holy Roman Empire . The rule of Hanau , later the County of Hanau and then the County of Hanau-Münzenberg , did not succeed in fully integrating the court into their county in the process of territorialization . Rotelsau originally belonged to the Fulda monastery . In 1391 the income from the Schlüchtern monastery included the income from the Rotelsau mill. The village was often pawned by the Fulda monastery in the 14th century. So the von Thüngen and the von Hutten shared it. In 1510 the village is called a desert. In a contract between those von Hutten and the Count of Hanau from 1526, Hanau reserved the high jurisdiction in the village. In the 17th century the von Hutten claimed a joint condominium with Hanau over the area of the former village.

After the death of the last Hanau count, Johann Reinhard III. in 1736 the Landgraves of Hessen-Kassel inherited the entire county of Hanau-Munzenberg. The district of Rotelsau later belonged to the Electorate of Hesse , after its administrative reform of 1821 to the district of Schlüchtern and since the Hessian regional reform from 1972 to the Main-Kinzig district .
