Royalty

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Royalty (also California S 26 or Royalti ) is a red wine variety , a new variety from 1938 by Harold Olmo between the Alicante Ganzin and Trousseau varieties . The crossing took place at the University of California at Davis in California . Due to the influence of the Alicante Ganzin variety, it is a hybrid of the Vitis vinifera family - Vitis rupestris . It was launched in 1958 at the same time as the Rubired variety . However, since its yield is significantly lower than with Rubired, it is not as successful. It is grown almost exclusively in California (→ viticulture in California ) on around 271 acres = 109 hectares .

The late-ripening variety is moderately tolerant of real and downy mildew . It produces dark-colored wines and is therefore very suitable as a dye grape (also known internationally as Teinturier). It is also used locally as a table grape .
