Rușchița (German: Ruschkitza , Hungarian: Ruszkica ) is a village in Caraș-Severin County , Banat , Romania . The village of Rușchița belongs to the municipality of Rusca Montană .

Geographical location

Rușchița is located in the north of the Caraș-Severin County, on the border with the Timiș County , in the Poiana-Ruscă Mountains .

history

The first written mention of the place comes from the year 1803. Over the years different spellings of the place name appeared: 1888 Ruszkicza , 1913 Ruszkica , 1924 Ruşchița .

Istvan Ferenczy was the first to discover the marble deposits near Rușchița in 1828. He compared this white marble to Carrara marble . In 1883, the Banat engineer Johann Biener (1817–1900) began mining the Ruşchița marble deposits. In 1912 it was exported to 12 countries. The Vienna Bank Palace was built with marble from Ruşchița, as was the Budapest Parliament Building and the Parliament Palace in Bucharest . The eagle in the Oval Office of the White House is made of Ruşchița marble, the Milan Cathedral was restored with Ruşchița marble in the 1970s.
