Rubén Sosa , full name Rubén Sosa Ardáiz , (born April 25, 1966 in Montevideo ) is a former Uruguayan football player .
Player career
society
Sosa started his professional career at the age of 15 with Danubio FC . This made him one of the youngest players to ever play in the Uruguaya Primera División . In 1985 he moved to Europe . With Real Zaragoza , he won the Copa del Rey in 1986 when he scored the decisive goal in beating FC Barcelona .
Then Sosa moved to Serie A for Lazio Rome . After four years he was sold to Inter Milan . There he was the club's top scorer in 1993 and 1994, and with the club won the 1993/94 UEFA Cup . However, the new club owner Massimo Moratti signed the Dutchman Dennis Bergkamp and Sosa decided to leave Inter and Serie A. With his new club Borussia Dortmund he won the German championship in 1995/96 . This season he only scored three goals in 17 championship games. When he left Dortmund, he went back to Uruguay for Nacional Montevideo for one season , and in the 1996/97 season to Spain to CD Logroñés for a year .
After only a few unsuccessful months, he returned to Uruguay to join his favorite team, Nacional Montevideo, with which he was national champion three times. In 1998 he was at the end of the season together with Martín Rodríguez (River Plate) after every 13 goals scored this season the top scorer of the season . In 2002 he went to China to Shanghai Shenhua for six months and then returned to Nacional in his home country.
National team
Sosa took part with the Uruguayan U-20 selection at the U-20 South American Championship in 1983 and was runner-up in South America. During the tournament he was used seven times (one goal) by coach José Etchegoyen . In the same year he reached the quarter-finals of the Junior World Cup in 1983 with the Celeste . He was also on the squad at the 1985 U-20 South American Championship . The Uruguayan team finished fourth there. Coach Aníbal Gutiérrez Ponce has fielded him seven times in Paraguay . Sosa scored three goals.
Sosa played 46 times for the Uruguayan senior team between June 13, 1984 and July 16, 1995 . He scored 15 hits. He was one of the victorious Uruguayan squads at the Copa America in 1987 and 1995 . He also participated with the Celeste at the 1989 Copa América , 1993 Copa América and the aligned in Italy 1990 FIFA World Cup in part.
