Massimo Moratti (born May 16, 1945 in Bosco Chiesanuova (VR) , Italy ) is an Italian oil tycoon (co-owner of the company Saras founded by his father ) and was the main owner and long-time president of the football club Inter Milan SpA between 1995 and 2013 .

Moratti is the son of Angelo Moratti , the former owner and president of Inters (1955 to 1968). The era in which Inter became a world-famous team is still considered the club's most successful period. Massimo Moratti is married to Emilia Bossi and has five children. His sister-in-law Letizia Moratti , widow of his brother Gian Marco Moratti , who died in 2018 , is an Italian entrepreneur and former mayor of the city ​​of Milan .

Career

Massimo Moratti took over Inter Milan in 1995 and was initially also president of the club until he handed over this office to club legend Giacinto Facchetti in 2004 . After Facchetti's death in 2006, Moratti took over the presidency again.

Moratti has invested an estimated 750 million euros in the club. In July 1999 he bought striker Christian Vieri for the then record transfer fee of 90 billion lire (the equivalent of around 46.5 million euros). Other of his star purchases were Ronaldo , Adriano , Hernán Crespo , Zlatan Ibrahimović , Julio Cruz , Patrick Vieira , Juan Sebastián Verón , Samuel Eto'o and Diego Milito . Due to the sales of players like Andrea Pirlo , Clarence Seedorf , Roberto Carlos or Fabio Cannavaro , who became world stars after their departure from Inter Milan, Moratti often had to accept criticism for his transfer policy.

The Italian entrepreneur was also known for the numerous coaching changes in his era: Under Moratti, 19 different coaches worked at Inter, some of them several times. Roberto Mancini Inter trained the longest under him, but was sacked at the end of May 2008 after he had brought three Scudetti in a row.
