Ruby Winters

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ruby Winters (born January 18, 1942 in Louisville , Kentucky , † August 7, 2016 ) was an American R&B and soul singer .

biography

Born in Kentucky and raised in Cincinnati , Winters recorded a few singles in the late 1960s that appeared on Diamond Records . However, the singer was denied great success in the USA. The tracks Make Love to Me (a duet with Johnny Thunder), I Don't Want to Cry and Guess Who made it into the top 20 of the R&B charts, but these songs only reached positions on the Billboard Hot 100 for a short time End of chart.

The single I Will , which was released by Polydor in 1973 , initially only brought regional success and reached number 39 on the US R&B charts. It was only after its release in the UK in 1977 that the track became a hit. In the UK charts , the cover version of the Vic Dana song was at number 4. In 1978, Come to Me was another hit in England at number 11. Subsequently, interest in Winter's music subsided again, so that the singles I Won't Mention It Again and Baby Lay Down only reached lower positions on the British charts.

The 1979 compilation Songbird was awarded a silver record in Great Britain . When further commercial success did not materialize, Winters withdrew from the music business.
