Rudolf Decker

Rudolf Decker (born May 22, 1934 in Schwäbisch Hall ) is a former German CDU politician .

Career

As a structural engineer, Decker founded an engineering office for statics and project management in 1963, which he and his brother still run today. From 1968 to 1992 he was a member of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament . As a directly elected member of parliament, he made environmental protection one of his personal tasks. He was the first environmental policy spokesman for his group in the state parliament and published his book Operation Environment in this context .

From 1968 to 1978 he was a member of the Böblingen municipal council, from 1971 to 1974 he was also chairman of the CDU parliamentary group. From 1971 to 1989 he represented the CDU in the district council, whose parliamentary group he was from 1971 to 1977.

Voluntary activities in politics and society

As a Christian-oriented politician, he is a co-founder of an informal initiative for basic values ​​and international understanding. There was a similar initiative immediately after the Second World War under the leadership of the former member of the Bundestag Gustav-Adolf Gedat . This non-partisan and interreligious initiative is open to everyone and is based in the Federal Republic of Germany on the “responsibility before God and people”, which is mentioned in the first sentence of the preamble of the German Basic Law .

This non-formal association can be described as a network of worldwide contacts. In this context, Decker is primarily active in promoting international understanding in Europe, Africa and Asia. His interlocutors included, for example, numerous incumbent and former European and African presidents, members of the government and parliament. These included the former presidents of Burundi , Kenya , Rwanda , Somalia ( Siad Barre ) of Sudan , Ethiopia , the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Tanzania .

Decker reports on some of his experiences in Africa in two books. To this day he is in this country in coordination with the Foreign Office with parliamentarians and organizes the discussion group every week of meetings in Berlin in the parliamentary society. In 1984 he was co-founder and until 2017 chairman of the “Association for Basic Values ​​and Understanding of Nations”. V. "and has been chairman of the board of the" Foundation for Basic Values ​​and International Understanding "founded by this association in 1996.

In 1979, Decker founded the Prayer Breakfast initiative together with the publisher Friedrich Hänssler and the CDU politician Horst Waffenschmidt , which has since established itself in the German Bundestag and in several state parliaments based on the American model . Until the end of 2017, he was in charge of the meetings, which he then handed over to Tilo Braune .

Awards

In 1978 Decker was awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class . 1985 the Great. In 1995 he received the Baden-Württemberg Medal of Merit .

Private

Decker was married to his wife Gretel, who died in 2011. He is married to Wiltrud for the second time and lives in Böblingen .
