Rudolf Käubler

Rudolf Käubler (born July 10, 1904 in Niederdorf (Saxony) , † August 16, 1989 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German geographer .

Life

Käubler attended elementary school in Niederdorf in Saxony and the seminar preschool in Stollberg / Erzgebirge . From 1928 to 1925 he completed the teachers' seminar there. He then became a teacher in Niederdorf. In 1931 he passed the state examination in geography , German studies and history . He did his doctorate and habilitation as an assistant at the Geography Institute of the University of Leipzig . In 1933 he joined the NSDAP and also became a member of the National Socialist German Lecturer Association (NSDDB) .

In 1951 he was appointed professor at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg , where he was given a chair in geography in 1952 and became director of the Institute for Geography . In 1955, Käubler was elected Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. He was also Vice Dean until 1962 . In 1969 he retired. One of his academic students is Klaus Mylius , who became internationally known especially as an Indologist .

Käubler was a presidential member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina , of which he was a member from 1959, and in 1980 he received the Leopoldina Medal of Merit .
