Rudolf Krzyzanowski (born April 5, 1859 in Eger (Cheb) , † June 20, 1911 in Graz ) was an Austrian conductor and composer.

Life

Krzyzanowski studied violin, organ, piano and composition at the Vienna Conservatory since 1872 . Together with Friedrich Löhr , Hans Rott and Hugo Wolf, he was part of the close circle of friends of Gustav Mahler , who studied in Vienna from 1875 to 1878. Together with Mahler he was commissioned to compose the piano reduction of Anton Bruckner's 3rd symphony . Mahler also later advocated Krzyzanowski, who (after positions in Laibach , Hanover and Halle and Prague, among others ), on his recommendation, held the position of Second Kapellmeister at the Hamburg City Theater in 1896/97 - alongside Gustav Mahler. However, there was a rift there.

From 1898 Krzyzanowski was the first conductor of the Weimar court orchestra . With the conductor Peter Raabe , who also worked there, there were disputes over the hierarchy that led to Krzyzanowski's dismissal in 1907. Initially dismissed in court, he was found right in 1910. His sudden death as a result of an operation preceded a possible reinstatement.

Krzyzanowski was married to the singer Ida Doxat (1867-1947). His older brother Heinrich Krzyzanowski (1855–1933) was a writer.

Five songs for voice and piano of Krzyzanowski's few surviving compositions have been published by Ries & Erler .
