Rudolf M. Kloos

Rudolf Michael Kloos (born April 18, 1926 in Trier , † September 15, 1982 in Munich ) was a German historian and archivist .

After military service and imprisonment, Rudolf M. Kloos studied from 1947 to 1952, first in Mainz and then in Munich, the subjects of Latin Philology of the Middle Ages, history and auxiliary historical sciences. In 1952 he received his doctorate under Paul Lehmann with a thesis on Lamberts von Lüttich Vita of the Apostle Matthias . From 1952 to 1957 he worked at the Monumenta Germaniae Historica (MGH) and was entrusted with the collection of letters from Petrus de Vinea and the letters from Petrus de Prece . In the 1950s he worked on the commission of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences for the publication of the German inscriptions of the Middle Ages and modern times. In 1957 he entered the preparatory course for senior archive service at the Bavarian Archive School in Munich and worked at the Bamberg State Archives from 1960 and at the Main State Archives in Munich from 1967 . Since 1967 Kloos was a lecturer and from 1978 honorary professor for "Medieval and Early Modern Epigraphy " at the University of Munich .

For the academy project Die Deutsche Insschriften Kloos edited the volumes for the city and district of Munich and for the district of Bamberg. In 1980 he wrote the important work Introduction to the Epigraphy of the Middle Ages and Modern Times .
