Rudolf Muther

Rudolf Muther (born December 12, 1823 in Breitenau , † April 28, 1898 in Coburg ) was a German lawyer and politician ( NLP ) in the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha .

Rudolf Muther attended the Casimirianum high school in Coburg and studied from 1843 to 1846 at the University of Jena and the University of Heidelberg . In 1846 he passed his first state examination in law and on January 20, 1849 he became an accessist in Coburg (where he was part-time secretary of the Coburg state parliament ). On June 24, 1852, he became an actuary at the state government's secretariat and on October 2, 1852, first actuary at the Neustadt Justice Office . There he became a judicial officer on July 1, 1858.

On May 5, 1865 he became mayor and later mayor of Coburg. In 1896 he left office.

During his tenure, the city's population increased by 60%; the introduction of a modern tax system increased the city's revenue by 350%. A large number of investments were made during this period, including the high-pressure water supply, sewer system, gym, Rückert school, slaughterhouse, gas street lighting and cemetery expansion.

In 1887 Muther acted as registrar at the wedding of Johann Strauss and Adele Deutsch.

In 1861 and 1865 he was elected to the 5th constituency in the Coburg state parliament. From 1868 to 1896 he was President of the State Parliament.
