Live and act

Rudolf Stadelmann began training as a medalist at the Mint in Darmstadt in 1838 , but had to give up this job due to an eye injury. From 1843 he worked at the Philipp Emanuel von Fellenberg agricultural institute on the Hofwyl estate near Bern, which is famous throughout Europe . His enthusiasm for Fellenberg's ideas inspired him to write Die Stiftung von Hofwyl, published in 1844 . Shown in excerpts and outlines of Hofwyler's sheets and aspirations . In 1845 he continued his agricultural studies at the University of Jena . A year later he took the position of secretary and accountant at the University of Agriculture Institute. 1847 doctorate he became Dr. phil.

After completing his doctorate, Stadelmann stayed in Jena for two years. He continued to attend university classes and listen to historical lectures. His attempt to found an agriculture school failed. In 1849 he accepted an invitation from Carl von Wulffen and visited his estate in Pietzpuhl ( Saxony-Anhalt ). One of Wulffens' daughters became his partner. Stadelmann published an impressive picture of life about Carl von Wulffen , the founder of the theory of the statics of agriculture, in the Prussian yearbooks in 1863.

From 1850 to 1871 Stadelmann was General Secretary of the Agricultural Central Association of the Province of Saxony . From 1858 he lived in Halle (Saale) . He campaigned for an agricultural institute to be set up at the University of Halle under the directorate of Julius Kühn . With his memorandum, published several times, The Protection of Useful Birds in Its Necessity for Agriculture, Forestry and Horticulture (1867), he pioneered the Bird Protection Act .

After 1871 Stadelmann worked as an archivist and freelance writer . First he wrote a well-founded work on the agricultural associations in Prussia (1874). After the publication of his book Frederick the Great in his Activity for Agriculture in Prussia (1876) he was asked by the director of the Prussian state archives to research the work of the Prussian kings for the national culture and to publish the results. Stadelmann has dedicated himself to this task with tireless diligence. In the series of publications from the Königl. The Prussian State Archives appeared between 1878 and 1887 four volumes in which Friedrich Wilhelm I. , Friedrich II. , Friedrich Wilhelm II. And Friedrich Wilhelm III. are represented in their work for the national culture. Stadelmann, economist since 1859 , was appointed state economist in 1882.
