Ruud Degenaar

Ruud Degenaar (born August 21, 1963 , † June 7, 1989 at Zanderij , Suriname ; also Rudy or Rudi Degenaar ) was a Dutch - Surinamese football player .

Degenaar was an athletic defender who impressed Wiel Coerver so much that he selected him as the model for the photos in his 1983 training textbook Leerplan voor de ideal voetballer . His father Dolf Degenaar was also a soccer player in the 1950s and 1960s, including a long time in the first team of FC Zwolle . Rudi , as Ruud was called, played as a professional at Heracles Almelo . In 1985 he was like Hendrie Krüzen as a jonkie , as a young player to the team that was able to celebrate promotion to the Eredivisie . In the 1985/86 season he first played eight games for the Go Ahead Eagles from Deventer , before coming back to Almelo for 16 more missions in the honor division. After direct relegation, he stayed with SC Heracles in the Eerste Divisie . On the side, he occasionally played indoor soccer, for example for the Yozgatspor team , with whom he won a multicultural indoor tournament in Hengelo in 1987 .

In 1989 he was thinking of changing clubs; There was interest in his commitment at FC Twente from Enschede and MVV from Maastricht , but also at various Belgian clubs. Before his plans could be finalized, he was appointed to the Kleurrijk Elftal , a selection team of Dutch and Surinamese football players, in June 1989 . The team wanted to travel to a friendship tournament in Paramaribo . Shortly before landing, the Douglas DC-8 had an accident on Surinam Airways flight 764 near Zanderij ; Degenaar and his girlfriend Hedwig Wolthuis were among the 176 fatalities in the aircraft accident.
