Rudy Ray Moore (December 2007)

Rudy Ray Moore (born March 17, 1927 in Fort Smith , Arkansas , † October 19, 2008 in Akron , Ohio ) was an American comedian , musician , actor and film producer .

Life

Moore began his career as a rhythm and blues - singer , he was successful but as a stand-up comedian . In the 1960s and 1970s, he released several comedy albums, with his style of harder pace than that of his contemporaries such as Redd Foxx and Richard Pryor , which is why he was not hired for appearances on television. In 1975 he played the lead role in the blaxploitation - feature film Dolemite . Moore had previously developed the role of pimp Dolemite in his stand-up program. The sequel The Human Tornado was created the following year. He also worked as a producer on both films. A few other appearances as an actor followed in the 1970s. It wasn't until the mid-1990s that he really resumed his acting career and continued the character of Dolemite in Big Money Hustlas and The Return of Dolemite .

Moore himself did not achieve an outstanding level of awareness, but is named by many artists from the rap and comedy area as an important influence, including Luther Campbell from the 2 Live Crew , who called him in 1997 "the first, the biggest underground comedian of them all" designated. Snoop Dogg wrote in 2006 "Without Rudy Ray Moore, there would be no Snoop Dogg, and that's for real".

Moore died of complications from diabetes in a nursing home at the age of 81 .

In 2019, Dolemite Is My Name, a biopic about Moore, was published in which Eddie Murphy played the leading role.
