Rui Lavarinhas
Rui Lavarinhas (born September 1, 1971 in Vila Nova de Anha ) is a former Portuguese cyclist .
Rui Lavarinhas started his career in 1998 with the Portuguese cycling team Maia-Cin . He was fourth in the Tour of Asturias in his first year . The next year he won the overall ranking of the Tour of Venezuela . In the 2002 season he won the road race of the Portuguese championship after a good sixth place in the Catalan Week . The following year he was third on the Tour of Portugal and won the mountain classification. After the Paris – Nice 2003 race, Lavarinhas was suspended for six months for doping with corticosteroids .
In 2005 Lavarinhas moved to the Portuguese Continental Team Riberalves . There he achieved his first stage victory in the Tour of Portugal . He ended his career with the Benfica team after the 2007 season .
