Cândido Barbosa

Cândido Joaquim Venda Moreira Barbosa (born December 31, 1974 in Rebordosa ) is a former Portuguese cyclist .

Cândido Barbosa won two stages in the Algarve Tour for the first time in 1995 . In 1996 he was able to win two stages again; in the same year he was European road racing champion (U23) on the Isle of Man . In 1997, when he drove for Maía-Cin , he won all stages, including the overall standings, for the first time. He then moved to the Spanish professional team Banesto . Here he was less successful, but won his first stage of the Tour of Portugal in 2001 . In 2005 he secured the time trial title at the national championships, and in 2007 he became the Portuguese road champion.

Barbosa competed twice - in 1996 and 2004 - in the road race at the Olympic Games, but with little success: in 1996 he finished 112th and in 2004 he gave up.

In total, Barbosa achieved 99 stage wins in the course of his cycling career, mainly in races in Spain and Portugal. After the 2010 season, in which he won the Grande Prémio Internacional de Torres Vedras , he ended his career.
