Rupert Dworak (born January 8, 1962 in Neunkirchen ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). Dworak was a member of the Lower Austrian state parliament from 2003 to June 2018 and has been the mayor of Ternitz since 2004 .

Life

After primary and secondary school, Dworak attended the Bundesrealgymnasium Wiener Neustadt . After graduating from high school in 1980, Dworak worked for the municipality of Ternitz for a short time and then moved to Bausparkasse Wüstenrot as sales manager. Between 1988 and 2003 he was the district manager of the SPÖ.

Dworak was a youth functionary of the Socialist Youth and the Young Generation . He was elected to the local council in 1988, was promoted to city council in 1991 and has been mayor of Ternitz since 2004. In addition, he has the function of SPÖ city party chairman. Since 2008 he has also been President of the Social Democratic Association of Community Representatives in Lower Austria. Dworak has represented the SPÖ in the state parliament since April 24, 2003.

After the state elections in Lower Austria in 2018 , Dworak announced his resignation as a member of the state parliament at the end of June 2018, in order to take care of the agendas of the association of municipal representatives in addition to his role as mayor. On June 28, 2018, Christian Samwald took over the direct mandate from Dworak , René Pfister took over the state parliament mandate that became available. Andrea Kahofer moved into the Federal Council instead of Pfister.

In November 2019, he was elected chairman together with the Mayor of Klagenfurt, Maria-Luise Mathiaschitz, at the Federal Conference of the Social Democratic Association of Local Representatives (GVV) . In February 2020 it became known that after 13 years he was to hand over his role as SPÖ district party leader in the Neunkirchen district to Christian Samwald. The election was originally supposed to take place at the district conference on April 3, 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic , this was postponed to October 16, 2020.

He lives in Ternitz and is the father of a son and a daughter.
