Ruprecht Eser

Ruprecht Eser (born January 6, 1943 in Lutherstadt Wittenberg ) is a German television journalist .

Life

He spent his school days in Leipzig . Before the Wall was built , his family fled with him to West Berlin . From 1962 to 1967 he studied journalism , political science and sociology at the Free University of Berlin .

As a student he also worked for the BBC 's Berlin office . After graduating in 1967, he worked as an editor at the BBC in London in the German Service department.

In 1970 he started at ZDF in Mainz and was part of the Politics and Current Affairs editorial team until 1972 . He then headed reports / documentaries in the main internal affairs department until 1984 . After a detour as a ZDF correspondent in London, he became a presenter in 1985 and editor-in-chief of heute-journal in 1988 .

On March 1, 1992, he moved to the private company Westschienenkanal GmbH & Co. KG (later VOX ) as program director. In April 1993, he resigned from this position because, according to press reports, his concept of the broadcasting schedule had come under internal criticism.

In October 1993 he returned to ZDF and took over the show half past twelve - Eser and Guests (until 2003, 327 issues). For a while he was also the chief reporter for ZDF. From June 1997 to the beginning of 2004 he was ZDF's main editor-in-chief for social and educational policy. In 2004 he took over the management of the ZDF studio in London.

Since 2008 he has been a lecturer at the Institute for Media and Communication Studies at the Free University of Berlin and since 2010 also at the European Media and Business Academy . He has been an honorary professor at the University of Leipzig since 2013 .

Eser has been married to ZDF presenter Marina Ruperti since 1992 . The couple have two children.
