Ruth Kaiser

Ruth Kaiser (born February 4, 1921 in Viersen ; † November 30, 2000 there ) was a German photographer. She published numerous illustrated books on the Lower Rhine .

life and work

Ruth Kaiser (née Braun) attended the municipal lyceum in Viersen until 1937, then the Krefeld School of Applied Arts with subjects in plastic, free-hand drawing and graphics. In 1940 she began an apprenticeship as a photographer . In 1948 she took her master's degree and married the artist Hanns-Josef Kaiser (1920–2017) in 1949. They had two sons, Reinhard Kaiser , the writer, and Stefan Kaiser , the artist. The focus of Kaiser's work was architectural photography and museum photography; so she took for example for catalogs of the museum Abteiberg in Mönchengladbachand the Von-der-Heydt Museum in Wuppertal . Especially in the years from 1983 onwards, landscape photography was added as a further focus and several illustrated books on the subject of the Lower Rhine were created . In addition to experimental photography, she was also active in the field of sculpture and sculpture. In 1987 Kaiser was appointed a member of the German Society for Photography . Her work in public space includes the relief at the main entrance of the Viersen hospital and the corpus of the altar cross of the St. Notburga Church , which she created together with her husband . Her city history images are now in the Viersen city archive. The museum custodian of Rheydt Castle , Christiane Zangs, wrote about Kaiser's work, “Architectural landscape, architecture in the landscape, plastic impressions, light and shadow that form these plastic impressions [...] are to be understood as a central theme in Ruth Kaiser's work "; she design them with a special understanding of composition, harmony and proposition.
