Rybno [ ˈrɨbnɔ ] ( German Rybno , formerly Ribno , before 1945 also Rübenau ) is a village in the powiat Działdowski of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the rural community of the same name with 7205 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2019).

Geographical location

The village is located in the southwest of the voivodeship, about 24 kilometers northwest of the city of Działdowo (Soldau) and 60 kilometers southwest of Olsztyn (Allenstein) .

history

In 1789 Rybno is referred to as a royal village with 31 fireplaces (households) situated on a lake, which belongs to the Löbau domain district. Until the end of the First World War, the village of Rybno belonged to the Löbau district in the Prussian province of West Prussia of the German Empire .

After the end of the First World War, the Löbau district with the village of Rybno had to be ceded to Poland due to the provisions of the Versailles Treaty for the purpose of establishing the Polish Corridor .

As a result of the attack on Poland in 1939, the territory came under international law to the Reich territory, and the district of Löbau with Rybno belonged to the Reichsgau Danzig-West Prussia until 1945 . Towards the end of World War II , the region was occupied by the Red Army in January 1945 and returned to Poland.
