The Secular Institute Cruzadas de Santa María ( es . : Instituto Secular Cruzadas de Santa María , abbreviation: ISCSM) is a female Roman Catholic institute of consecrated life . According to canon law , it is an institute under papal law and was founded in Spain in 1960 . The founders are the Spanish Jesuit Tomás Morales and the current general director Lydia Jiménez .

history

In 1960, Father Tomás Morales SJ and Lydia Jiménez founded a community in the spirit of the Second Vatican Council , which was supposed to work for the new evangelization of society. In 1965 it was transformed into an association of believers and in 1989 it was episcopally recognized as an Institute of Consecrated Life. In 2000 it received the canonical status of a secular institute under papal law.

Familia de Santa Maria

The secular institute of the Cruzadas de Santa Maria is the core of the "Familia de Santa María". As further branches emerged:

  • The apostolic youth movement “Milicia Mariens” wants to offer young people a solid and spiritual education . The holistic Christian pedagogy is open to all vocations and offers group lessons, study circles, retreats , pilgrimages and sports camps.
  • The “Institut Berit for Families” was founded on October 8, 1998 in Madrid and has since opened many other branches in Europe , America and Africa . The Berit Family Institute is a center for education, assistance and a general venue for events for families . In Santiago de Chile , it is attached to the Law Faculty of the University of Santo Tomas.
  • The “Priestly Community of Father Tomás Morales” for diocesan priests was founded on October 1st, 2004 as an international community in Munich. The secular priests want to be a spiritual support for the members with the connection to the secular institute. They work together for further theological training and promote young people, marriages and families, students and seminarians .

Germany

In Germany the community has 16 members and one branch each in Munich (1991) and Bonn (2004). In Munich, the institute has been running the Catholic student residence Haus St. Benedikt and in Bonn the Catholic student residence Haus St. Teresa. The head and founder of the German priestly community in Munich is Christoph Ohly from the Archdiocese of Cologne .

Life form

Like all secular institutes, the members want to lead a consecrated life in the midst of the world. They want to live unrecognized and without special identifying marks. The members live in small communities and go quite common their professional life after. You strive for a life in the spirit of the Mother of God Mary . Her work focuses on education, which is why the professional group of educators and teachers is strongly represented.
