The Söllbach is a creek almost six kilometers long in the Hohenlohekreis in northern Baden-Württemberg with a northwest to western course, which flows from the right into the middle Ohrn on the southern edge of the village of Cappel in the city of Öhringen .

geography

course

The Söllbach arises about one and a half kilometers southeast of the center of the village of Obersöllbach in the small town of Neuenstein at the lower foot of the slope of the Waldenburg Mountains . It begins its course first to the northwest at about 335  m above sea level. NHN next to a valley bay below the loop of a forest path between the Pfaffenholz tubs to the west and Merzenholz to the east. After a good 300 meters run with only episodic water flow, it leaves the oak-rich forest and moves in a naturally meandering course under the tops of a tree gallery and on the left accompanied by a field path in a gradually west-northwest direction past half a dozen fish ponds on the shore.

About one kilometer after its origin, it experiences at about 290  m above sea level. NHN from the east tributary from its first and last eastern tributary, which arises below the forest slope Steigenschlag in the open corridor next to a vineyard area belonging to the Neuenstein district mark of Eschelbach . Less than half a kilometer further strengthens it opposite a small pond at a fork in the field from the left and south-southeast, another brook, which in a forest blade on the northern slope of the Pfaffenberg at a little below 390  m above sea level. NHN arises and thus higher than the Söllbach itself, but in the upper reaches of the Gipskeuperhang also only carries water episodically.

Two hundred meters later he begins his half a kilometer long and twisted run through the village of Obersöllbach, after which he straightens the next half kilometer next to a dirt road and a thin row of trees. At the end of this section it flows through from about 255  m above sea level. NHN and thus about 20 meters below the edge heights in a naturally meandering and gallery-accompanied run now westward a meadow valley into which the state road L 1036 descends, which accompanies the stream from there to the mouth.

In the meantime in the area of the city of Öhringen , it briefly crosses the hamlet of Untersöllbach , where it is barely affected , where it is reinforced by another left tributary from the Gänsklinge at the bridge connecting the village to the country road on the right side of the valley , which, like the protective stream that follows, is already in the foreland Mountains emerge. After another half a kilometer, the Schutzbach flows down from Untersöllbach, it runs like the goose blade a little northwest.

On the last kilometer of its way down the Schutzbach estuary, the Söllbach passes a few buildings in the Öhringer village of Cappel on the slope above the L 1036, crosses under the L 1049 that joins it and then flows out on the southern edge of Cappel at almost 230  m above sea level. NHN from the left into the middle Ohrn , only about 300 meters before the larger Epbach , which runs towards you in the village from the same side.

The Söllbach, which flows about 105 meters below its forest origin after a 5.7 km run, has a mean bed gradient of about 18 ‰.

Catchment area

The Söllbach drains an area of 7.7 km². The two highest sources are natural environments seen in the northern strip of the subspace Waldburger mountains of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains , the largest part of the area of the foot of the slope to the mouth against it in the Hohenloher and Haller level counting Öhringer level .

Keuper shifts are due in the entire catchment area . On the plateau of the mountainous country, where the with about 487  m above sea level. NHN is the highest point on the east-south-east tip in the Gewann Steigenschlag , there is extensive silica sandstone ( Hassberge formation ). The lower colored marl ( Steigerwald Formation ), then a narrow strip of reed sandstone ( Stuttgart Formation ) follow the rather wide upper and middle slope to the Öhringer Plain . Even deeper on the slope, the Gipskeuper ( Grabfeld Formation ) begins below this , in which the sources of the Söllbach and its first two tributaries arise and which continues in the lowlands to the outskirts of Obersöllbach. Below the village the brook already flows in a hollow in the Lettenkeuper ( Erfurt formation ), into which it also flows. From the village to the confluence, the hollow is accompanied on the left by a plain covered with loess sediment from Quaternary deposits, on the right by such a ridge in front of the neighboring Epbach valley, but on this side the Lettenkeuper lies across from Untersöllbach.

Near the edge of the source of the first left tributary from the Pfaffenholz there is a station on the geological path leading up from Michelbach am Wald on the Pfaffenberg , where the gray estheria layers spread out in the upper part of the gypsum keuper at an embankment outcrop. The place where a small displacement occurs is designated as a geotope.

In turn, the catchment area of the Söllbach borders on the following neighboring waters:

  • In the north lies the catchment area of the larger Epbach , which flows into the Ohrn just below the Söllbach .
  • Beyond the northeastern watershed, the Eschelbach drains to the Epbach.
  • From the highest point in Steigenschlag follows the most prominent section of the total watershed on the south side, which goes over the Ahörnle and the Sporn Pfaffenberg and its foothills Gügling to the west of Michelbach and behind which the Michelbach collects the drain to the other side and leads above the Söllbach to the Ohrn .
  • The western catchment area boundary runs on the right slope of the valley of the Ohrn, which does not receive any significant tributaries on this section from the Scheide.

A small gusset in the very east on the plateau of the Waldenburg mountains belongs to the small town of Waldenburg , the largest, adjoining part with only the village of Obersöllbach am Lauf to the small town of Neuenstein , the slightly smaller western part to the middle town of Öhringen , from which the hamlet of Untersöllbach is also on Lauf and part of the southern edge of the village of Cappel at the mouth is also within the boundaries, while the village of Michelbach am Wald has moved closer to the catchment area border due to newer development from the south, but is still just outside. There are no other settlement areas.

Tributaries and lakes

Origin of the Söllbach at about 335  m above sea level. NHN approx. 1.5 km southeast of Neuenstein - Obersöllbach next to a partly open valley bay between the wooded spurs of the Waldenburg mountains Merzenloh in the east and Pfaffenholz in the west. The stream initially flows northwest.

  • RiverIcon-SmallLake.svgPassed after leaving the forest at about 310  m above sea level. NHN after about three hundred meters on the rest of its first kilometer run until immediately after the following tributary half a dozen fish ponds, mainly on the right bank, together about 0.7 ha.
  • (Inflow from the open corridor Merzenloh ), from the right and east to about 290  m above sea level. NHN close to the parking lot for the fish ponds, 1.2 km and approx. 0.6 km². Arises at about 350  m above sea level. NHN at the vineyards in the southern Herdweg . The main line is only 1.0 km long up to this inflow, but contributes a somewhat larger sub-catchment area of approx. 0.7 km².
From here the creek flows in an approximately west-northwest direction.
  • RiverIcon-SmallLake.svgPassed at about 281  m above sea level. NHN a pond on the Ahornweg forked into two field paths about 200 meters before the local border of Obersöllbach, under 0.1 ha.
  • (Inflow from the Pfaffenholz ), from the left and south-southeast to about 281  m above sea level. NHN opposite the previous pond, 1.2 km and approx. 0.5 km². Arises below 390  m above sea level. NHN in a forest blade north of the vineyard on the Pfaffenberg .
The following village Obersöllbach crosses the stream mostly or completely and then rises to about 260  m above sea level. NHN on almost western course.
  • (Brook from the goose blade ), from the left and southeast to about 243  m above sea level. NHN in Öhringen - Untersöllbach at the end of the village to the state road L 1036, 1.9 km and approx. 0.8 km². Arises at about 283  m above sea level. NHN on the district road K 2355 Obersöllbach– Michelbach am Wald . Ditch on the first half of the run.
  • Schutzbach, from the left and southeast to 236.8  m above sea level. NHN to Untersöllbach, 2.0 km and approx. 1.9 km². Arises at about 280  m above sea level. NHN in the Hieseläckern north of the Aussiedlerhof Steigenäcker. Ditch on the first half of the run.

Mouth of the Söllbach from the right and east to below 230  m above sea level. NHN on the southern edge of Öhringen- Cappel in the middle Ohrn , only about 0.3 km above the larger Epbach . The Söllach is 5.7 km long and has a catchment area of 7.7 km².

Nature and protected areas

The ash trees dominate the quite completely preserved accompanying gallery of the Söllbach, and there are also black alders and willows.

On the Waldenburg mountains and on their northern slope there is about one square kilometer of the catchment area closed forest. The remaining, open corridors are dominated by the fields, with the exception of the edge of the foot of the mountain, the softness of the places mentioned and the valleys where there are meadows and orchards. There are vineyards on the upper reaches of the only right tributary, even more on the northern slope of the Pfaffenberg and its western foothills Gügling. On the top of the Pfaffenberg, a carnation site is designated as a natural monument, which also includes the geotope mentioned above. The forest merges there into the surrounding vineyards, in places there is raw soil . The Waldenburg area in the far east and an even smaller strip on the southern edge near Michelbach am Wald belong to the Swabian-Franconian Forest Nature Park .
