Sölvesborg is a municipality ( Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Blekinge län and the historic province of Blekinge . The main town of the municipality is Sölvesborg .

Every summer the population of the municipality doubles. Tourists are mainly attracted by the sandy beaches on the Baltic Sea and by cultural events such as the Sweden Rock Festival , which takes place annually in early June.

geography

The municipality of Sölvesborg is located on Hanöbucht and includes the island of Hanö , which gave the bay its name.

history

During the municipal reform of 1952, the parishes (socken) Gammalstorp and Ysane became the large municipality (storkommun) Gammalstorp, which included the city of Sölvesborg and its surroundings. On January 1, 1971, the municipality of Sölvesborg was formed from the amalgamation of the city of Sölvesborg and the municipalities of Mjällby and Gammalstorp.

  • Since 1947 there has been a town partnership with Nexø on Bornholm; Since the Bornholm municipalities were merged into a single one in 2003, the partnership has extended to the entire Bornholm municipality.

  • The town in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has been Sölvesborg's twin town since 1991.
•  Poland : Malbork
  • The partnership with Malbork has existed since 1998.
•  Russia : Sortavala
  • Sortavala has been Sölvesborg's twin town since 1997. In 1998 a fundraising campaign for the residents of Sortavala took place in Sölvesborg, which was very well received there.
•  Lithuania : Ukmergė
  • The partnership with Ukmergė has existed since 2000.
