Søren Fjordback Søndergaard (born September 17, 1966 in Aalestrup ) is a former Danish boxer .

Amateur career

Søren Søndergaard was Danish champion in 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1991. At the European Championships in 1987 in Turin , he won a bronze medal and started in 1988 at the Olympic Games in Seoul , where he was defeated in the first fight against the eventual Olympic champion Vyacheslav Janowski .

In 1991 he defeated Jyri Kjäll and took part in the World Championships in Sydney , where he was eliminated in the first fight against Olympic champion Andreas Zülow .

Professional career

In 1992 he turned pro and remained unbeaten in 21 fights, with 20 of his opponents having a positive match record. He also defeated former WBA world champion Livingstone Bramble in June 1995 . He suffered his only defeat in September 1995 when fighting for the European Championship against Khalid Rahilou .

He finally won the European title in April 1996 against the undefeated, later IBF world champion Michele Piccirillo unanimously on points and defended the title against Carl Wright, Viktor Baranow and Vyacheslav Barinov. In September 1997 he beat former IBF world champion Jake Rodriguez and in November 1997 the amateur world champion Kelcie Banks .

In June 1998 he defeated the later WBC world champion Carlos Baldomir and three months later he boxed a draw with Emanuel Augustus . He played his last fight in October 1998 against Fred Ladd (balance: 45-2) and won on points.
