The Südliche Happ ( 3304 m above sea level ) is a mountain peak of the Dorferkamm in the Venediger group in East Tyrol ( Austria ). It is located in the north of the municipality of Prägraten am Großvenediger . Neighboring peaks are the Große Happ in the north, the Kleine Happ in the southwest and the Kleine Geiger in the southwest.
Naming and history
The "Happ" is a dialect expression for "sheep", which is why the name of the summit should actually be "Southern Happ" and not "Southern Happ". The first ascent of the Südlicher Happ took place in 1897 by K. Mittermayer while crossing a ridge to the Großer Happ. The southeast ridge was used for the first time on September 14, 1925 by H. Peterka and H. Majer for the descent, whereby the ascent of the two climbers was for the first time over the east ridge.
location
The Südliche Happ is located in the north of the Dorferkamm in the core zone of the Hohe Tauern National Park . It is a satellite of the Großer Happ ( 3350 m above sea level ) to the north and topographically important, as a 600 meter deep east ridge leads from it to the Hinterbichler Dorfertal , which borders the Dorferkees to the south. In front of the southern Happ is the southeast summit ( 3203 m above sea level ), which is connected to the Türmljoch by a long south ridge. To the west of the southern Happs is the east wing of the Maurerkee, which extends almost to the south-east summit. Below is the Stredacher Winkl basin with the Maurerbach . The south-east ridge also radiates from the south-east summit to the Hinterbichler Dorfertal.
Promotion opportunities
The ascent to the Kleiner Happ takes place from the Essener-Rostocker-Hütte or from the Johannishütte first on the marked trail of the Schweriner Weg. At the height of the rocky Vein crest, the marked path is left at an altitude of 2494 meters and the ridge of the Kleiner Happ is climbed on the west side of the Kleiner Happ via block fields or a steep rubble channel. Then you turn north to the stone slab-strewn slope of the southeast summit and reach the summit ridge in a direct ascent.
