1979 South Pacific Games / Soccer

At the VI. 1979 South Pacific Games, which were held in Fiji for the second time , a football competition was played. The previous record number of twelve teams took part in the tournament. The games were played in Suva from August 22 to September 8, 1979 . The game was played in four groups of three teams each. The first and second placed qualified for the quarter-finals. In addition, a "consolation round" for fifth place between the group third and the losers of the quarter-finals was played, but this was not played to the end.

Tahiti won the South Pacific Games tournament for the third time.
