From 1959 to 1964, the airfield personnel of Jagdgeschwader 72 were housed in the barracks. In 1964, the reconnaissance wing 52 was transferred from Eggebek to the Leck Air Base and took over the barracks in Stadum for accommodation and logistics. During this time, the air base group commander was also the barracks commander . On October 8, 1966, the barracks were given the name General-Thomsen -Baserne.
