SNF Floerger , headquartered in France , claims to be the world market leader for water-soluble polymers . There are products for the production of drinking water , the sewage treatment , the oil production , the mining , paper production , the agriculture , the textile industry and the cosmetics produced. SNSF is one of the largest chemical companies in France. However, the company is little known to the general public as it is a private company operating in the business-to-business sector. At the end of 2018, the group employed 6,200 people and achieved sales of 3.0 billion euros.
Locations
The SNSF Group consists of branches and joint ventures in more than 40 countries and has 20 factories in Europe, Asia, Australia and North and South America. The main production facilities are located in Andrézieux-Bouthéon around 25 km north of Saint-Etienne in the French Loire department , Riceboro (Georgia / US), Taixing ( China ), Ulsan ( South Korea ), Plaquemine (LA, USA) and Vizag ( India ). SNSF has customers in 130 countries and sells products in several industries. From 2001 to 2011, the SNSF invested more than one billion euros in production facilities. history
In 1968, Streichenberger switched the production of oziol in Saint-Étienne from coal briquettes to flocculants for water treatment. The FLOERGER brand was created from FLOcculants and StreichenbERGER. The company SNF was founded in 1978 and sold several times, including to BP France and WR Grace . The technical manager René Pich and the sales manager Hubert Issaurat then took over the company in a management buyout . At that time, the SNSF had 25 employees, a turnover of FRF 2 billion and produced 200 tons per year. In 1987, the SNSF acquired the Chemtall industrial site in Riceboro, Georgia , the United States, which is still the company's largest site. In 1993, an oil company in Daqing commissioned SNSF to build the world's largest polyacrylamide factory (50 kt / year) in the northeast of the People's Republic of China . In 1995, SNF took over Polypure, the American water treatment subsidiary of Rhône-Poulenc . At the beginning of the 2000s, more than 30 subsidiaries were founded. In 2007 the company won an order for the planning and construction of Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) for Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) in Oman . In 2011, construction began on a factory in Plaquemine, Louisiana , USA, specializing in products for improved petroleum production.
Industry sectors
The products manufactured by the company are used in numerous market segments. The company's growth engine is the increasing scarcity of energy resources, water, oil and ores .
SNF produces organic coagulation aids such as polyDadmac , polyamine and polyacrylamide flocculants for the treatment of wastewater. The polyacrylamide flocculants are used for primary clarifiers and above all for sludge dewatering.
The petroleum industry is also supplied: The polyacrylamides are used in the improved oil recovery (EOR) to improve the speed and the amount of oil extracted from the reservoir. Different techniques are used: the injection of polymers (PF, enhanced oil recovery), and surfactants (SP) or the process polymers / surfactants / alkali metals (ASP). With this technique, up to 90 percent of the original oil content can be collected.

For the paper industry, the company sells polyacrylamides under the Floret brand, which are used either alone or in systems with several components in the constant part of the paper machine . They improve the paper and board quality as well as the productivity in the retention and drying of the paper. The coagulation aids manufactured by SNF act as fixing agents for various additives such as colorants and sizes. They neutralize the charge and are a means of controlling cationic demand.
The company also manufactures products for agriculture and forestry : superabsorbents , which consist of cross-linked polyacrylamides, can absorb up to 400 times their weight in water. They are suitable for numerous applications: afforestation, horticulture, landscape architecture and ornamentation. These products, sold under the brand name Aquasorb , improve the water retention of the soil, reduce watering time, water consumption and the loss of water and nutrients through leaching. Soluble polyacrylamides are used to flocculate the soil and thus improve the penetration of water and the aeration of the soil, as well as to reduce soil erosion .
The company also supplies the textile industry: Floprint - thickeners are used for textile printing pigment printing, reactive printing and dispersion pressure. Thickeners come as reverse emulsions, drained emulsions, and powders. SNF also produces textile auxiliaries that serve as dispersants, anti-migration agents, fixing agents and sizing agents.
The company supplies products for the cosmetics industry : conditioning agents , rheology modifiers and carbomers under the Flocare and Flogel brands . The first, known as Polyquaternium 6, 7, 11, and 22, is used for hair conditioning (English. Conditioners ) and body shampoos. These have an affinity for keratin ; so they protect and repair the hair. The rheology modifiers are inverted emulsion thickeners that are useful in skin care formulations and hair care creams. Carbomers are made by precipitation and are one of the thickening agents most commonly used by the cosmetics industry.
SNF sells under the name Floset Polymer for the building materials industry, under Flosperse and Flogel dispersants for household cleaning agents, as Metalsorb chelates for heavy metals and odor absorbents under the name Odorflo .
